How to Make a Lo-fi Light Leak in Adobe Photoshop | Adobe Creative Cloud

Apply a retro film look to your photos.

Start from scratch, or download practice files [https://learndownload.adobe.com/pub/learn/photoshop/lo-fi-light-leaks_source.zip] for a head start. Steps below.

Add first light source:

1. Open lo-fi-lightleaks_source.jpg in Photoshop.
2. Add an adjustment layer: Click the Create new fill or adjustment layer icon in the Layers panel. Choose Color Lookup.
3. Choose filmstock_50.3dl from the list of 3DLUT file options.
4. Add an adjustment layer. Choose Gradient.
5. Set the gradient properties – here are the settings we used:
a. Set the gradient angle (-163).
b. Select a Gradient (Foreground (black) to Transparent).
c. Drag the Color Stop on the right – the small square below the preset preview (Location 28%).
d. Drag the Opacity Stop – small square above the preset preview to the right – to the left (Location 46%).
e. Set the Color Stops, double-click the small squares below the preset preview, (we chose light orange and red). Click OK twice.
6. Lower the Opacity of the adjustment layer (we chose 80%).

Add second light source:

1. Drag the Gradient Fill adjustment layer to the Create a new layer icon in the Layers panel to duplicate it.
2. Double-click the thumbnail on the duplicated layer. Set the Style to Radial. Increase the scale (we chose 539%).
3. Click the gradient preview. Slide the second Color Stop to the left (we chose Location 17%. Click below the gradient preview to add a third Color Stop (we chose Location 31%). Apply a new color to it. Click OK to close the Gradient Editor (do not close the Gradient Fill).
4. Drag the radial gradient to the lower left. Click OK to close the Gradient Fill.
5. Lower the Opacity of the adjustment layer (we chose 50%).

That’s it!
