How to Create a Cinemagraph in GIMP + Olive
This tutorial shows you how to create a cinemagraphic using entirely FREE software! I show you how to create this effect using a combination of GIMP (a free photo editor) and Olive (a free video editor). Cinemagraphs are a combination of a photo and a video – with the photo usually containing a portion that is masked out, and the video displaying and playing behind the photo in that masked out portion. The final effect is a cool animation effect that has become really popular over the years.
I believe GIMP will be able to perform this effect entirely on its own when newer version come out with new animation features – but for now this is a great way to create a cinemagraph when using only free software.
