How to Replace Color in a Video in Adobe Premiere Pro | Adobe Creative Cloud

Change the color of an object in a video to add a touch of artistry to your project.

Start from scratch, or download practice files [https://adobe.ly/2Vt9lD9] for a head start. Steps below.

Prep your project:

1. Create a new project in Premiere Pro (File – New – Project). Name your project.

Tip: You can also click Create New Project.

2. Import the video clip (File – Import) and drag it to your timeline.

Note: The color we’re working on appears in a focused area of the shot rather than in multiple places. The video also shows good contrast and color saturation, making it ideal for this effect.

Change a specific color:

1. Open the Effects panel (Shift+7).
2. Type change to color in the search field.
3. Drag the Change to Color effect to the clip on the timeline.
4. Open the Effect Controls panel (Shift+5).
5. In the Change to Color section, use the From eyedropper to sample the color you want to replace. The color changes to red by default.
6. Adjust the Tolerance (Hue) and Softness to fine-tune your color selection.

Tip: We set the Hue to 15% and the Softness to 60%.

7. Click the To color chip and choose a new target color.

Tip: We chose an orange color.

Animate the color change:

1. With the playhead at the start of the clip, click the stopwatch next to To.

Tip: This creates a starting animation keyframe

2. Advance the playhead and pick another To color to set a new keyframe.
3. Continue moving the playhead and setting a new color at various intervals to animate the color flow throughout the shot.
4. Press the spacebar to preview the final effect.

That’s it! Play your sequence to see the complete movie title.
