Create a New Layer from a Selection in GIMP

In this GIMP basics tutorial for beginners, I show you how to create a new layer from a selection area using a very simple technique. I demonstrate a couple of methods for transferring pixels from one layer to another layer, or to a new layer, using the selection as a boundary for the pixels you want to move. This technique has several applications, including removing image backgrounds around a subject, creating collages, creating image effects or photo manipulations, and more.
