How to Make a Composite Portrait in Adobe Photoshop | Adobe Creative Cloud
Blend photos and fabric patterns for the ultimate fashion design.
Start from scratch, or download the project file containing the sample assets
[ https://adobe.ly/3HFdrQ1] for a head start. Steps below:
Prep your file:
1. Open Photoshop and create a new document.
2. Drag the background pattern and model image on the canvas.
3. Duplicate the pattern layer, move it to the top layer, and then hide it.
Select and mask:
1. Select the model image layer and choose the Object Selection tool.
2. In the top menu click Select Subject.
3. Refine your selection by clicking Select and Mask and Refine Hair.
4. Click and hold the Object Selection tool to find the Quick Selection tool.
5. Add back in parts of the hat and subtract the lower right part of the model’s jacket.
6. Click the mask button in the layers panel.
7. Use the Quick Selection tool again to select the lenses.
8. Right-click and select Fill.
9. Set Contents to black and click OK.
10. Press Control + D (Windows) or Command + D (MacOS) to deselect.
11. Click the Move tool and center the model on the canvas.
Cut your pattern:
1. Make the top layer visible again.
2. Click the mask button in the layers panel.
3. Press Control + I (Windows) or Command + I (MacOS) to invert the mask to black.
4. Use the selection tool to select the jacket, watch, and earring.
5. Select the mask thumbnail in the layers panel.
6. Right-click on your selection and click Fill.
7. Set Contents to white and click OK.
Add a shadow:
1. Click the Layer Style button on the bottom of the layers panel.
2. Select Inner Shadow.
3. Adjust the settings.
