How to Make a Hyper Watercolor Pattern in Adobe Photoshop | Adobe Creative Cloud

Create a seamless painterly design without picking up a brush.

Start from scratch, or copy the Photoshop file to your Creative Cloud account and access it from the Your Files section of the Photoshop Home screen [ https://adobe.ly/3BrbPXm ] for a head start. Then add the Library [ https://adobe.ly/3JsGlCW ] of additional assets. Steps below.

Isolate your subject:

1. Choose the Object Selection tool.
2. Enable the Object Finder on the tool bar.
3. Hover over the beetle and click to select it.
4. In the Layers panel, apply a mask.

Add a golden hue:

1. In the Layers panel, click the Adjustment Layer button.
2. Apply a Gradient Map.
3. In the properties panel, click the gradient preview.
4. In the Gradient Editor window, double-click the color stops to customize the colors. We liked #FFCC66 and #8A4B02.

Add special effects:

1. Hold Shift as you click the Gradient Map and Beetle layers.
2. Right-click and choose Convert to Smart Object.
3. Choose Filter – Filter Gallery.
4. Expand the Brush Strokes category.
5. Select the Accented Edges filter and adjust the settings.
NOTE: We liked the Edge Brightness set to 32.
6. Apply a second filter by clicking the Add New Effect Button at the bottom of the window.
7. Select the Watercolor filter in the Artistic category for the second effect.
NOTE: We liked the Shadow Intensity set to 0.
8. Click OK.

Set the pattern:

1. Choose View – Pattern.
2. Zoom out to see more of the pattern.
3. Select the Move tool.
4. Turn on Show Transform Controls.
5. Adjust the scale and position of your beetle.
6. Press Enter or Return to place it.

Bring in more bugs:

1. Open the Libraries panel (Window – Libraries – Discover – Hyper watercolor pattern)
2. Drag the completed bugs from the library into the design.
3. Experiment with scale and position to create a custom pattern.

That’s it!
